Busy Bee building a new hive.

I apparently have been busy since July. Because I've not even remembered to update this...but because I am at the moment particularly proud of the way my projects are going, it's time.

Mostly, I wanted to post a poem that I wrote the other day in class, that I really enjoy reading, and feel quite satisfied with at the moment:

DEATH TO THE MOCCASSINS

It’s raining.

Falling rockets in a midnight blue

I just bought these shoes, damn it.

My brand new moccasins

With their fringed ankles and leather bows

We set them on fire,

And mourned there demise

We never saw it coming,

The rockets rain

Sparks zipping through the air

We never saw it coming

We watched in awe as the

pieces

drifted around us

I’ll never forget those shoes,

We burned them

In a fiery pit

In the backyard

Of a stranger

I do not know why

We deemed it necessary to burn those shoes

Golden moccasin flames

Drifting up

in rockets rain.

It’s early dawn,

On the morning of the rain

Smoke and haze envelop the dewy blades

They are only charred remains

I know, I know, poetry right? Well turns out I really love that class.

I'm also currently working on my portfolio, which I'm feeling quite proud of, but am not quite prepared to post as of right now, I'm getting feed back on it next week, and depending on how that goes, I might just post it.

I'm also working on a concept for the city of Detroit, mainly the Michigan Central Station..it's based of Marcel Duchamps Guest + Host = Ghost project..in which Marcel wrapped candies in wrappers where he had Guest + Host = Ghost printed.....
My concept, is based on a series of words, but mostly I'm basing it off the idea of Detroit, and it's ghost town appearance, I'm using the words disembodiment, transparent, x ray and orb as a few of my inspiration.

Promise to post more when I have longer than 5 minutes. (When, and if that ever happens)

I just found out a sold a piece I created a few months ago! I'm very excited because honestly, I thought it had been stolen. I had submitted it to the student show, and priced it at $90, when I went back to pick up my work it was gone! No one had called me to tell me it had sold or anything! Next thing I knew I got a check in the mail for $90 from the SEO. AMAZING! Much better than what I thought had happened!

Well: Here's the piece I sold!

Summer only leads to Fall

I'm posting my fall schedule, and can not wait for fall to be here! I'm excited about my classes, and moving into my apartment!

I'm also hoping to get this job at the Crepe Shop inside the building. I love the place, and the owner's a really cool chick! So hopefully I'll land this job! It would certainly make life easier for my senior year of CCS! SENIOR YEAR!

I've finally made it!

Summer's been interesting, and not nearly as productive as I'd like thus far. I've been working when I get the chance, but between my job, and all the other random things that have popped up I haven't gotten very far.

I've got quite a bit done for my portfolio, but still am not ready to present it to anyone. I'm really happy with how some of the pages have turned out, and once I get everything finalized and tweaked I'll be ready to put it in presentation form!

So that's where that is.

I'm also making my own duvet cover for my bed, sewing a few shirts and two skirts, working on my sketching skills and soaking up the sun!

I've ridden my bike everyday now for well over a month! And I'm getting great results! I feel better, I look better and I'm happier! It's such a nice relaxing thing to do! Today I rode 10 miles with my brother and then went to the gym with my mom for swimming. All in all it's been good.

And since my laptop doesn't have internet at this point, you won't be seeing any recent work, but as soon as I get it all set I'll be doing a mass upload.

Until then!

My Fall Classes:
Poetry
Business Practices (This is a senior studio class for interiors)
Site Specific Casting
Senior Studio
Philosophy.

More to come soon!

Coroflot + Portfolio days.

Okay, I'm doing this quick little update, just for updates sake. I'm working on a lot right now, mostly my portfolio, both online and hard copy, trying to come up with a clever way to construct the physical version as well as an intriguing online copy. But for now, here's my coroflot. I'm having issues with it. It's not uploading work right now, but as soon as they've got the issues worked out, I promise to post more work!

Hair Piece

Okay, after spending the day in Ann Arbor, looking at this lovely lovely hair piece I've wanted for some time, but couldn't bring myself to spend $25 on. I decided, what the heck, I can make this! It's just some feathers! And guess what, I did! And best part, it only cost me $10 and now I have tons of feathers glue, and hair pins if I ever decide to make something from those.
Here's the pictures of it! :D

Student Show + Matt Graduated?

Wow. I can't believe this, my younger brother just officially received his BFA Thursday night. I can hardly wait til I walk across the stage.

Congratulations Matt!

I also just want to throw out there, that this semester was my best academic semester so far! 3.49. I'm hoping they round so I can be an official member of the Dean's List at last!

I plan on wasting away my lazy summer days working on further developing my design skills, as well as the technical aspects. I've spent the beginning of my summer reading 101 things I learned in Architecture School, and A Manual of Construction Documentation. Woo hoo right?

Hopefully this will pay off and lead to wonderful work!

I also plan on visiting NeoCon if I can find the means to get to Chicago, and visiting some schools I'm considering for the ol' MFA.

But for now, I will continue to plug away at 3ds Max, After Effects and Dreamweaver. Hopefully by the end of the summer I'll have an amazing website up and running! Wish me luck!

And finally, what your really here for:

Some work

This is the chair I created earlier in the semester. It's currently on auction at Art Van, but only for a few more days! Check out there site and bid! Starting bids are only a mere $50! Considerably cheap for a piece of art work!

Pokey.

So, It's been months since I've updated. Mostly because I've been busy and work, and partly because I've entirely forgotten I had the option.

I'll start at the beginning -
My courses this semester =
Sculpture
Lighting Design
Junior Interior Studio
3Ds Studio 2
Business Practices

For sculpture, I focused on using lighting in my projects....
The first project, SET.

During this summer, I plan on doing some site maintenance, so I'll add the concepts behind these pieces, as well as more photos of the works.

The second project, Artificial Light Source.

And my third and final project, Clustered.

Lighting Design:
The project for this course coincides with the final project for my studio course, which was an educational facility, I chose to create a fine arts school. In my lighting design, I wanted to keep the # of light fixtures to a minimum to eliminate the change in lighting temperature from classroom to studios. I wanted to keep in mind the effect the lighting temperature has on the student artists work.

I will add photos of this as soon as I have a internet connection to my other computer. Unfortunately, I have not yet added them to the desktop. I really need to invest in a external hard drive to make this easier. Currently using a 2GB flash drive, which no matter how much it sounds like, it does not seem to hold much.

And I'll end with next semester's classes =
Senior Interior Design Studio (FINALLY!)
Buisness Practices Seminar
Philosophy of the Arts
Poetry Writing Workshop
Site Specific Casting

Along with my schools move to a new building, we'll see how this semester goes.

And the most important update, I've chosen to continue my educational career and am currently exploring the different ideas of where I might go for my Masters degree, and what I will get it in. I've been told by my sculpture teacher to seriously consider Fine Arts, while another teacher has told me to continue in Interiors. Decisions Decisions.

1.24.2009

Currently

I have 5 courses again this semester.
But really, have only two major projects and a minor one now.
I have to design a chair for my 3Ds Max course, and promise to post the end results, so far I'm not sure how I feel about it.
Our studio class is design a floor in the Argonaut building as any type of education we would like. I chose fine arts because I actually know people in the department who can give me in put on what types of things they'd like, not to mention I'm minoring in Fine Art.
And speaking of Fine Art. I finally have a class this semester. Not that I did not have enough work already, I decided to add more. I'm taking sculpture, and working on an installation piece right now. I'm really enjoying the class, and our teacher is new to the department, and so far, seems pretty intelligent.

SAAB Project

The End of the Semester, and the start of another

So, fall semester ended, and since I spent a good chunk of my winter break re-designing, and constructing my parents kitchen, I haven't had the chance to update this in quite a while. But here I am updating finally, better late than never.

The end of the semester went very well minus a tough cold and losing my voice for a week and a half. My homework seemed to go smoothly and I feel the projects turned out pretty well.
I however, plan on finding some time this semester to re-render and fix a few things in my Saab project. As artists, we are never satisfied.

I'm most proud of my loft design, Blue Bird Lofts. I want to live in it forever. But, alas, first I must graduate and find a real job.

The overall goal of this design, was inspired by Anthropologie. I wanted to create a loft in a multiple season environment, and use colors that would fit throughout the year.

The loft pays close attention to architectural detail, but has a modern flair. I also wanted to include various artists.

I created a custom staircase leading up to the second floor loft space, where the bedroom and a library space are present. There is also an overhang area where I would personally put an easel and painting supplies, however I left the design open for each person to envision their own special items there.

The first floor features an open floor plan. The kitchen, bathroom, and living space are included in this area.

I chose to use Angela Adams Rugs, and Anthropologie fabrics throughout the loft. The bed is something I designed myself for this project. The wall behind the bed is shaped like (---). It houses a large book case on the opposite wall, and shelf space on the wall above the bed.

I used a lot of picture frames throughout, which is something inspired by Anthropologie. The bird cage hanging from the ceiling houses candles for a more romantic evening. The chairs are also inspired by Anthropologie. I found artwork on various websites.

I nearly forgot,

I re-photographed my Twig project, much nicer looking in the new photos, here's a few...

Blue Bird Loft

Obviously, these aren't done yet, but I wanted to post them, kind of give you a before and after effect, but I love them so far, and if I had the funds, and the time, I would build it, live in it, and never want to leave this place. You'd have to come visit me. :D

It's for my Auto Viz, 3ds Max studio, we were asked to design a loft, and basically had the freedom to design it anyway we wanted, and in any style, for any client. Needless to say, I'm very happy with the result so far.
Here's half the living room, there's hopefully going to be more to this, but with all my classes, and homework I've neglected to work on this, I'm not sure if I'll get to adding more.

Here's the second half, with a custom stair case, Rex Ray art, Anthropology style chair, and a sliding barn door.

Finally, and most importantly, the bed. Took me about three hours to create the frame for this thing, but I'm very happy with the result, I'm going to try and create a chandelier light fixture, but have been having some problems with doing so, so far.

-Other projects I'm working on-
Saab Car Dealership - The goal for my dealership is to create a gallery type space, where the cars are part of the art work, as well as a browsing area to simply see the car without the art. I included a lot of touch screen technology, and information booths for each car so customers will be able to get any facts they'd like.

Also, working on a 9 page paper, I'm writing it about How to Collect art, and the top three billionaire art collectors, we have to make a presentation to go along with this. Quite fun, needless to say. Ha.

And, finally, MoCad building study. Im working on a presentation, and trying to get all these laws straight. There are soooo many to remember, and there seem to be allowances for each thing that could completly change everything else in the space.

A quick little update

Here's what I've been working on so far this week :
It was a tree, my room mate was using for a Design project, but when she decided to use a different wood, I decided it would be fun to paint it. This is what I've come up with.

This is a space I've created in my AutoViz class, I've got a few older pieces I've created in it also, but those will come at a later time. This pieces focus is wallpaper, we were asked to create our own wallpaper and use it in an interior setting.

I should.

Probably should update this sometime soon. Just trying to keep up on my work right now. But promise, as soon as I have 5 minutes, this will get updated.

5 minutes would be good.

Sketchbook.

These are just some pretty raw images of my sketchbook. The only thing I fixed was orientation, landscape vs. portrait.
Enjoy

This is just something I doodled while watching the movie Only You. It's an attempt at remembering the movie. Hah.
Can you read it?Hah. This is something I doodled as an idea for my brothers birthday card I'm hopefully going to make him. We'll see how far I get with this.Okay. Just a basic quote, I liked it, so I wrote it down. Here it is.

I started out really hating this image, it's grown on me really. I'm not quite sure which orientation I'm happier with yet though.

Okay this ones just simple. It's self explanatory for the most part. I have 6 lamps in my living room currently. Yes, six. So I thought I'd draw some lighting. Because it still feels really dark in our living room.

.Robots. Are. Cool.

This is raw, but I think that's what I like about it.

This is probably my favorite thus far.

Oh dear.
So, everyone really likes this one, except me. I don't really like it at all at this point.

That's all I'm posting for now, because that's all I'm decently happy with at this point.
Also, it's a lot for me to post.
Hah.

Patrick Dougherty project....

I go from one to another, this assignment, was inspired by Patrick Doughertys stick works. Which are pretty marvelous really.
Check them out:
http://www.stickwork.net/

But, back to where this was headed, we were asked to create our own stick works.
I started out slowly, and finally came up with a cross, between the Arc de Triumph and a slinky.
What does that look like you ask?
It looks something like this:

It's made of Industrial foam, and Willow Tree Branches.

I'm going to be adding more in a bit, my computer is currently not cooperating.

Sleepless Night

While trying to find some sort of sleep state, I worked on my Digital 3D Max Assignment for my Interior Modeling & Animation Studio. I previously posted a piece I created during the first session, and finally came up with something of a solid idea. I really enjoyed this piece by Wassily Kandinsky....So I decided to take inspiration from his work, and turn it into a 3d Max piece for my own work. I tried to use most of the colors that struck me in this piece and mimic some of the shapes, but I feel I gave it my own interpretation as well...
Hopefully my instructor will see where I was going with this as well.

So there's what I have so far, it'll probably change before it's all said and done. And hopefully I'll update this and post the final pieces.

9.04.2008

Off to a....start?

Well, classes have started...for all of you who didn't notice.
Moved into my new place, which is absolutely gorgeous.
And I've already accumulated a pile of homework...which should be interesting, since I've only been to three of the five courses I'm taking...

But, I thought I'd update and put my first Auto Viz, or as it is now called Max 3d work up here, we were assigned to create a digital Kandinsky...

I thought it was quite fun really!
