Student Show + Matt Graduated?

Wow. I can't believe this, my younger brother just officially received his BFA Thursday night. I can hardly wait til I walk across the stage.

Congratulations Matt!

I also just want to throw out there, that this semester was my best academic semester so far! 3.49. I'm hoping they round so I can be an official member of the Dean's List at last!

I plan on wasting away my lazy summer days working on further developing my design skills, as well as the technical aspects. I've spent the beginning of my summer reading 101 things I learned in Architecture School, and A Manual of Construction Documentation. Woo hoo right?

Hopefully this will pay off and lead to wonderful work!

I also plan on visiting NeoCon if I can find the means to get to Chicago, and visiting some schools I'm considering for the ol' MFA.

But for now, I will continue to plug away at 3ds Max, After Effects and Dreamweaver. Hopefully by the end of the summer I'll have an amazing website up and running! Wish me luck!

And finally, what your really here for:

Some work

This is the chair I created earlier in the semester. It's currently on auction at Art Van, but only for a few more days! Check out there site and bid! Starting bids are only a mere $50! Considerably cheap for a piece of art work!

Pokey.

So, It's been months since I've updated. Mostly because I've been busy and work, and partly because I've entirely forgotten I had the option.

I'll start at the beginning -
My courses this semester =
Sculpture
Lighting Design
Junior Interior Studio
3Ds Studio 2
Business Practices

For sculpture, I focused on using lighting in my projects....
The first project, SET.

During this summer, I plan on doing some site maintenance, so I'll add the concepts behind these pieces, as well as more photos of the works.

The second project, Artificial Light Source.

And my third and final project, Clustered.

Lighting Design:
The project for this course coincides with the final project for my studio course, which was an educational facility, I chose to create a fine arts school. In my lighting design, I wanted to keep the # of light fixtures to a minimum to eliminate the change in lighting temperature from classroom to studios. I wanted to keep in mind the effect the lighting temperature has on the student artists work.

I will add photos of this as soon as I have a internet connection to my other computer. Unfortunately, I have not yet added them to the desktop. I really need to invest in a external hard drive to make this easier. Currently using a 2GB flash drive, which no matter how much it sounds like, it does not seem to hold much.

And I'll end with next semester's classes =
Senior Interior Design Studio (FINALLY!)
Buisness Practices Seminar
Philosophy of the Arts
Poetry Writing Workshop
Site Specific Casting

Along with my schools move to a new building, we'll see how this semester goes.

And the most important update, I've chosen to continue my educational career and am currently exploring the different ideas of where I might go for my Masters degree, and what I will get it in. I've been told by my sculpture teacher to seriously consider Fine Arts, while another teacher has told me to continue in Interiors. Decisions Decisions.

Currently

I have 5 courses again this semester.
But really, have only two major projects and a minor one now.
I have to design a chair for my 3Ds Max course, and promise to post the end results, so far I'm not sure how I feel about it.
Our studio class is design a floor in the Argonaut building as any type of education we would like. I chose fine arts because I actually know people in the department who can give me in put on what types of things they'd like, not to mention I'm minoring in Fine Art.
And speaking of Fine Art. I finally have a class this semester. Not that I did not have enough work already, I decided to add more. I'm taking sculpture, and working on an installation piece right now. I'm really enjoying the class, and our teacher is new to the department, and so far, seems pretty intelligent.

SAAB Project

The End of the Semester, and the start of another

So, fall semester ended, and since I spent a good chunk of my winter break re-designing, and constructing my parents kitchen, I haven't had the chance to update this in quite a while. But here I am updating finally, better late than never.

The end of the semester went very well minus a tough cold and losing my voice for a week and a half. My homework seemed to go smoothly and I feel the projects turned out pretty well.
I however, plan on finding some time this semester to re-render and fix a few things in my Saab project. As artists, we are never satisfied.

I'm most proud of my loft design, Blue Bird Lofts. I want to live in it forever. But, alas, first I must graduate and find a real job.

The overall goal of this design, was inspired by Anthropologie. I wanted to create a loft in a multiple season environment, and use colors that would fit throughout the year.

The loft pays close attention to architectural detail, but has a modern flair. I also wanted to include various artists.

I created a custom staircase leading up to the second floor loft space, where the bedroom and a library space are present. There is also an overhang area where I would personally put an easel and painting supplies, however I left the design open for each person to envision their own special items there.

The first floor features an open floor plan. The kitchen, bathroom, and living space are included in this area.

I chose to use Angela Adams Rugs, and Anthropologie fabrics throughout the loft. The bed is something I designed myself for this project. The wall behind the bed is shaped like (---). It houses a large book case on the opposite wall, and shelf space on the wall above the bed.

I used a lot of picture frames throughout, which is something inspired by Anthropologie. The bird cage hanging from the ceiling houses candles for a more romantic evening. The chairs are also inspired by Anthropologie. I found artwork on various websites.

I nearly forgot,

I re-photographed my Twig project, much nicer looking in the new photos, here's a few...

Blue Bird Loft

Obviously, these aren't done yet, but I wanted to post them, kind of give you a before and after effect, but I love them so far, and if I had the funds, and the time, I would build it, live in it, and never want to leave this place. You'd have to come visit me. :D

It's for my Auto Viz, 3ds Max studio, we were asked to design a loft, and basically had the freedom to design it anyway we wanted, and in any style, for any client. Needless to say, I'm very happy with the result so far.
Here's half the living room, there's hopefully going to be more to this, but with all my classes, and homework I've neglected to work on this, I'm not sure if I'll get to adding more.

Here's the second half, with a custom stair case, Rex Ray art, Anthropology style chair, and a sliding barn door.

Finally, and most importantly, the bed. Took me about three hours to create the frame for this thing, but I'm very happy with the result, I'm going to try and create a chandelier light fixture, but have been having some problems with doing so, so far.

-Other projects I'm working on-
Saab Car Dealership - The goal for my dealership is to create a gallery type space, where the cars are part of the art work, as well as a browsing area to simply see the car without the art. I included a lot of touch screen technology, and information booths for each car so customers will be able to get any facts they'd like.

Also, working on a 9 page paper, I'm writing it about How to Collect art, and the top three billionaire art collectors, we have to make a presentation to go along with this. Quite fun, needless to say. Ha.

And, finally, MoCad building study. Im working on a presentation, and trying to get all these laws straight. There are soooo many to remember, and there seem to be allowances for each thing that could completly change everything else in the space.
